ABOUT US

MCXVI Architects was founded in 2001. Currently, the firm is managed by founders László Herczeg and Gábor Szokolyai, who are also the lead architects.

We believe that the built environment is fundamental to the quality of human life. We strive to integrate all technical, financial, legal and architectural aspects, while not losing sight of the value of architecture, the greatness of creation, the responsibility of community and the importance of a livable human scale.

Our unique feature in the Hungarian market is that our work covers all scales of environmental design. We understand architecture in its complexity, from urban design, buildings and interiors to individual industrial and fine art works. This is how a design can become a coherent, rounded whole. It is this layering that enriches, gives meaning to and, we hope, makes the architecture we represent more lovable and successful for all.

Profile

Town, building, interior: can be understood both as a sequence of scales and as a matrix of thought, a continuous zooming in and out on the immediate human use of space, on comfort, on the aesthetic experience of space. The starting point is always the person, the human scale.

Architecture

Our studio’s rich, award-winning portfolio is the result of three decades of architectural design practice, with nearly three and a half million square metres of buildings designed and built for a wide range of functions. We take a complex and comprehensive approach to architectural tasks, with a design approach that is both rational and creative, considering economic, disciplinary and structural aspects as well as architectural form, environmental awareness and the aspects of the wider context.

Interior design

Architecture of the interior Both architecture and interior design are about creating space. There is no sharp distinction between them. In the ideal design process, they are not sequential, they are not layered, they are a consequence of each other. The best buildings are coherent inside and out. It is more appropriate to speak of the architecture of interiors than of interior architecture in the conventional sense. Interiors can be understood personally and experienced more directly by everyone.

Urbanism

Our experience as town planners, members of local authorities and architectural juries has given us a thorough understanding of the system and the possibilities of local regulations. As architects, we know not only what can be built on a site, but also how to create a quality and well-functioning development. We look for architectural answers at the urban scale to make the consultation, regulation and approval processes more efficient and to find the optimal solution for the developer and the community.
